'Step Up!' Activists Fight For Cheetah Girls To Replace Mount Rushmore Presidents

BLACK HILLS, SD—Members from The Cheetah Girls Fandom, better known as the "Amigas Cheetahs Coalition," made a rare public appearance with an elaborate display early this morning in front of Mount Rushmore. The group is advocating for the removal of Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln from the monument, and instead, would like to see the faces of Galleria, Chanel, Dorinda, and Aqua, better known as Bubbles, Chuchie, Do, and “the other one” from The Cheetah Girls on the historic landmark.

The Coalition, varying in age, dance talent, and vocal register performed several songs from the franchise including, ‘Girl Power’, ‘Step Up’, and fan-favorite, ‘Strut’, while handcuffed to each other.

Aurora Jane Phillips, President of the Pride told reporters, “We’re here today because the Cheetah Girls taught us that Together We Can do anything: shoot the moon, stop the rain, even ride a hurricane. That type of message, that type of unity, that’s what America needs.”

Mount Rushmore came under fire last Fourth of July weekend after President Trump held a campaign rally in its shadow praising “American heritage [and] culture.” Historically, the monument has caused controversy as many believe its creation violated the Treaty of 1868, wherein the Sioux tribe was promised territory that included the Black Hills. Built on stolen land, and honoring slave-owners, Trump said he felt it was, “The best place to spend the Fourth of July, really, truly, the best. The weather is perfect. Sundress weather. Have you seen Ivanka in a sundress? Ass like a peach. Ivanka in a sundress, now that's a monument worth erecting!“

Members of the Sioux tribe are divided as many believe the land should be restored to its original glory, however, some think the impact of the Cheetah Girls is simply, unparalleled.

Harold Fraizer, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe’s chairman officially called for the National Memorial’s removal in a statement today but says he is “more than willing” to discuss the future of the land with the Amigas Cheetahs.

“I’m a huge Raven-Symoné fan. In my humble opinion: she was the best part of The Cosby Show. And her role in Dr. Dolittle? Iconic. To see her go from a smart-mouth, high school psychic just trying to live a normal life, to a Cheetah Girl... well, that was nothing short of incredible."

While no arrests were made of any Amigas Cheetahs Coalition members, their performance was so powerful it inspired police to join alongside protestors for the final number, “Cheetah Sisters.” After the song whose lyrics include the lines, “Our spots are different/Different Colors/We Make Each Other Stronger/That Ain’t Ever Gonna Change/We’re Cheetah Girls/Cheetah Sisters,” police continued harmonizing but began shooting cheetah print rubber bullets at the crowd from point-blank range.
