'She Said Yes!' Man’s Engagement Announcement On Social Media Overshadowed By Another Shooting

DENVER, CO—Desperately scrolling down his social media page, knowing it was too late to take his post down and that he was fully committed, recently engaged Joshua Coats muttered to himself.

"Just my luck..."

His well-thought-out engagement post, complete with a 10-picture collage of him and his fiancée, dates, times, and complete details, would be overshadowed by yet another mass shooting.

Already on the homepage of the fourth of his accounts to post the announcement, he had also noticed that the gun debates had begun to flood in as well. “Dammit,” began the high school video production teacher and varsity basketball coach. “They're thinking about my shitty timing. This is just so heart-wrenching. God, this is terrible. The shooting too. That's horrible too.”

Not being able to bear it anymore, especially after learning the hunt for the mass shooter, who took out 19 middle-school-age kids, injured 26 more, and was thought to be still in the area, was still very much underway, Coats went back to the homepage of the original social media account of the first of his postings to assess the damage.

“6 likes. No loves. No care emojis,” Coats could barely utter as he stared at his now stale post, put up an hour and 56 minutes ago. “I should have done my due diligence beforehand. This falls on me, really. This is the worst thing that could have happened.”

With absolutely no options left and time running out until they were bound to catch the shooter, Coats had reopened his Facebook, posted ‘Thoughts and prayers,’ for the town where the shooting had taken place, and planned a follow-up engagement announcement for the following day, just praying they had caught the shooter by then.
