Man Newly Married To 'Plant Mom' Having Difficulty Connecting With Stepplant

INDIANAPOLIS, IN—In the winter of 2022, longtime Hoosier and graphic designer, Steven Brownlow, 33, wed his girlfriend of six months, freelance barista, Jennifer Holloway, 31. However, it’s been reported that in the early months of 2023, Brownlow has been having a hard time bonding with his stepson, a three ft. tall snake plant named Kyle.

Brownlow and Holloway first met on Stir, a dating website for single parents. When the topic of children came up, Holloway revealed she’d recently adopted Kyle from a local Home Depot. Brownlow, a father of three fully grown succulents, figured his experience raising children would make it easier to connect with Kyle. Now an empty nester—His youngest having just gone away to college—Brownlow was excited to build a relationship with his new stepson.

Unfortunately for Brownlow, Kyle has not been as open to such a connection. Initially described by his mother as ‘low maintenance,’ Kyle has been very headstrong in ignoring his stepfather’s efforts.

“He just doesn’t want anything to do with me,” remarked Brownlow. “We play catch, he doesn’t throw the ball back. I offer to go on a walk, and he just sits there, staring at me.”

“It’s hard on my husband,” explained Holloway. “I can see it’s hard for him to build a relationship with Kyle. It makes me worried about what it’ll be like when we want to start a real family. If he can’t handle a plant, how will he ever handle a dog?”
