Even More Impressive: LeBron Reveals He Thought He Was Playing Hockey This Whole Time

ATLANTA, GA—In a stunning interview given to TNT’s Inside the NBA, basketball superstar LeBron James has revealed that for the entirety of his career, he has thought he was playing hockey. Despite racking up four NBA titles, 17 All-Star appearances, and over 36,000 career points, the Laker told the TNT crew that he thought he had been competing for the Stanley Cup for the past two decades.

“When I first started, I thought it was weird that the ice was so wooden,” said James on the broadcast. “And how I wasn’t given a hockey stick when I was drafted. A lot of things just didn’t seem to fit right. But I was so good at the sport—whatever it is, 'hoopball' or whatever—and everyone kept praising me. Then, we won the cup or championship and at a certain point it just became too embarrassing to ask why the coaches kept yelling at me when I was lacing up my skates.”

The dramatic revelation has shaken the world of sports to its core, leading other top players in the NBA to react.

“This explains a lot,” said fellow Laker Russell Westbrook. “Every time we run down the court, Bron is always yelling 'Icing! Icing!' We all thought he was calling out plays he made up since he’s such a cerebral presence on the court. Turns out he was just mad we were committing icing, whatever that is.”

LeBron, who grew up skating and idolizing the US National Hockey team in snowy Akron, Ohio, has said that throughout his childhood, high school, and NBA experience, no one challenged his beliefs.

“I remember we were playing the Kings and I fouled Buddy Hield. Of course, I held my hands up and went to go sit by myself in a glass cube next to the scorer’s table for two minutes. The next day, all of the papers were talking about me making a stand for mindfulness. I did not understand. Then, when I took out a stick mid-game and slashed Joe Ingles’ hand, all the reports were about my innovative defense.”

Following the revelation, James insisted that this will not affect his current career path.

“I’m gonna do what I’ve always done, which is put on my shorts, lace up my skates, and head out onto that wood-ice to score 30 goals to the best of my ability, whether there's a goalie there or not."
