Yang Campaigns For NYC Sports Fan Vote, Offers To Throw First Pitch At Knicks Game

NEW YORK CITY—As the Mayoral race gets closer, Andrew Yang is trying to win over the city's avid sports scene. Specifically, Yang has suggested that he “throw the first pitch at the Knicks playoff game or whatever.”

According to Yang, the Knicks have always been his favorite sports team.

“I grew up watching the New York Knickerbockers Basketball Franchise and honestly, I never missed a game! Watching Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera dominate every game was so inspiring,” said Yang as he put on a Julius Randle Jersey. “Randle is one of my favorite pitchers! I'm always at the half-yard line just like Spike Jonze."

“He’s been practicing pitching a basketball for the last two weeks at Madison Square Garden. I don’t think he knows that the Knicks are a basketball team or what basketball even is,” said Yang’s campaign manager as he handed Yang another basketball to throw overhand. “The Knicks have already played their first playoff game but Andrew isn’t aware of that either.”

Although the Knicks did not comment on Yang’s proposal, they have issued a restraining order after Yang repeatedly messaged players asking if they want to "play catch."

“At first he messaged RJ Barrett and Derrick Rose but then he started to reach out to Blake Griffin, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. We told him that those three play for the Nets but he kept repeating, ‘We’re New York Strong, baby!’”

Yang, however, has no plans to ditch his goal to throw out the first pitch.

“I want New Yorkers to know that I support all their sports teams. Whether it's the Knicks, Nets, Yankees or Bills, we’re all just one city united,” screamed Yang as he took a cab to Yankee Stadium. “Madison Square Garden, here I come!”
