Unclear If Market Ethnic Or Not

LOS ANGELES, CA— Reports indicate that it is unclear whether the little market on the corner that sells random items is ethnic or not.

The longtime fixture of Echo Park has been a go-to of neighborhood residents for all manner of random items, from fresh fruit and vegetables, phone chargers, weird flatbreads with writing no one can identify on the packaging, cigarettes, cutesy Asian cartoons on certain snack items and a hot-food section under a heat lamp that does not appear to have regular operating hours. What numerous inquiries have been unable to ascertain: if this particular market caters to a specific ethnicity, and if so, which one.

Various shoppers interviewed on-site appear to believe that the market is respectively Latinx (due in part to the extensive selection of Flamin’ Hot items with "limón"), Persian (due to the four different varieties of halva being sold and the prominent shisha behind the register) or even Nepalese (for unknown reasons). Other shoppers pointed out the sullen clerk behind the register appeared to be Caucasian, though one man who declined to identify himself claimed to have heard him angrily speaking “either Polish or Russian or something” on the phone once. Also, there was a Dominican in their once.

Despite the market’s popularity, local residents are unclear about the name of the establishment, leaving no clue there.

“I think it might be called 24 Hour Grocery because there’s a sign outside that says that,” says local man Raul Vasquez. “But it’s not a big sign like you’d expect the name of the store to be on, and it’s not open 24 hours at all. So, who knows.”

Other’s are less concerned about the ethnicity of the store and more about key products.

“Dude, can you just tell me if they have a beer or not?” said one woman. “I’ve been wandering around for an hour. I pet four different cats.”

As of press time, the man behind the counter demanded reporters either buy something or get out.
