Parents Make Traveling Son Sleep Outside Because 'They Don’t Have Quar-Hotel Money! Have You Lost Your Mind?'

INDIANAPOLIS, IN—When Axel White, 19, returned from studying abroad in the UK this semester, he came home to an unwelcome surprise.

A tent was set up in his backyard, along with a banner that said “welcome home son.” Axel’s parents had made him a makeshift quarantine shelter to ride out the two weeks stating: “we don’t have the money for a quar-tel. What do you think this is?”

The shelter included one small tent, sleeping bag, and Netflix on his own laptop that barely reached the family wifi.

“They didn’t even spring for an air mattress," said Axel, bathing himself using the yard hose. “I just thought coming home would mean I got to sleep in my own bed or at least a hotel but I guess COVID really has them scared.”

We spoke to Axel’s mother, Georgia White, and she enlightened us that it’s not that she hates her son, it’s that they simply do not have the extra cash for a two-week hotel stay.

“We’ve been saving up for a trip to Cabo when this is all over,” said Georgia. “So 14 nights at the Motel 6 wasn’t really an option."

Axel's parents bring him food and water every morning, noon, and night in a little bowl they used to use for their late dog, Skippy (RIP).

“I thought it was a little bit of overkill,” said Axel, eating Iams from the bowl. “But I guess if that’s what’s easiest for them I’ll take it, one can’t be too careful in these unprecedented times”
