Black Woman Forced To End All Pinterest Searches With "Black Woman"

RICHMOND, VA —As local interior designer Robyn Jennings got ready for a night out with the girls, she turned to Pinterest for a new eyeshadow look.

Upon typing in “smokey eye makeup” and coming across a series of Aryan models, Jennings attempted to use the skin tone filter. Tragically, she saw the same looks, but the models had brown eyes this time. Eventually, Jennings found what she was looking for by adding the words “black woman” to the end of her original search.

“Yeah, they have a skin tone filter for makeup looks or whatever,” Jennings explained. “But I wish I didn’t have to filter through Caucasian Christian-Girl Couture when I’m looking for an autumn outfit worn by literally any black woman.”

Tragically, Jennings’ dilemma isn’t limited to makeup and fashion. When tasked with designing a client’s living room, Jennings searched for a throw pillow sewing pattern and found one in the shape of the words “live, laugh, love.” After adding “black woman” to the end of her search, she was able to make round accent pillows to brighten up her client’s space.

“At this point, it’s getting ridiculous,” reported Jennings as she sorted through bullet journal layouts that she never even searched for. The situation came to a breaking point when Jennings searched “weekend dinner ideas” only to find several different recipes for lightly salted potatoes. Defeated, she added “black woman” to the end of her search and found a pretty okay recipe for maple glazed salmon.

“At this point, it feels like the Pinterest algorithm knows I’m black and actively refuses to give me any viable options,” Jennings commented. “There’s no reason I should search for kitchen lighting concepts only to be met with a neon sign that says ‘It’s Wine-O’Clock Somewhere.’”

We turned to Pinterest itself in search of answers, but only received a fishtail braid tutorial for blonde hair in response.
