Op-Ed: To Be Clear, Sliding is the Only Outcome

It go, right foot up, left foot slide
Left foot up, right foot slide
Basically, I'm saying either way, we 'bout to slide, ayy
Can't let this one slide, ayy

Is that clear? What I’m trying to say is that, no matter what direction…a slide will take place. Do you follow me? 

I know that me, Drake, and my team of ghost writers had really no time constraints in getting this song out. It’s a hit single and I’m quite proud of it. But it was surprisingly hard to get across the message and, well, I just hope our listeners aren’t befuddled. 

You see, I’m doing a play on words. Me, the narrator, has been wronged and I will slide on them and seek justice. I’m connecting that concept with the idea of a dance wherein, you got it, we slide. So in all the back and forth of sliding, I just want to be abundantly clear that whether you choose to dance or choose to seek vengeance … we will be sliding. It’s the only outcome really.

I bet you’re wondering, “Drake, why are you adding a clunky adverb in the chorus of a song?” Well, to be frank, I didn’t know any other way of getting the message across. With the left slide and the right slide even I was getting perplexed. But you have to understand that the song is called Toosie Slide and any option of not sliding had to be squashed. I’m sure with a bigger team and more resources I could’ve written a chorus that’s a lot more efficient and succinct but I just couldn’t manage that this time around. So the word “basically” is doing a lot of heavy lifting, and honestly, I regret that. 

If you have any clearer ways to explain the slide situation please email. I’m happy to re-write and then re-release the song so long as everybody is on the same page regarding the slide.
