Bag of Clothes Intended For Donation Celebrates 2nd Year In Woman's Trunk

HAWLEY, PA—In an impressive display of radical procrastination, a garbage bag full of clothes is celebrating its second birthday in the trunk of a local resident's car.

The Glad ForceFlex bag, originally filled with gently-used clothing two years ago, has become a staple of Samantha Toll’s black Honda Civic.

"I like donating my clothes because it’s better for the environment,” says Toll, patting the bag on its side to make room for Whole Foods bags. “Unfortunately, I just haven’t had the time to drop them off! I know—two years isn’t exactly something to brag about, but it’s a milestone nonetheless. We’re having cake later."

According to multiple sources, the bag takes up valuable real estate in the small vehicle.

“The bag has definitely been a big part of my life the past couple years,” Toll admits, reflecting on the bag's lengthy stay. “Mainly because whenever I have to put something else in my trunk, I pop it open and think, ‘Oh shit, this thing again.' But oh well. It’s worth it to conserve energy and reduce the carbon footprint.”

The heavy sack of clothes also complicated a recent road trip with friends.

“We had a hard time loading everything into Sam’s car,” explains Sara Ruccel, a close friend. “The stupid bag was taking up so much space, and Sam refused to store it elsewhere. I wasn’t able to bring my longboard, and that was like, the main activity we planned to do. And the bag's vanilla lavender scent? I had a migraine five minutes in.”

When asked if she would ever consider throwing the bag away, Samantha is adamant that chucking the clothes is not an option.

"These clothes still have plenty of life left in them!" claims Sam as she lights the bag’s birthday candles. "The thought of lazily adding them to a landfill? What a waste! I’d rather donate them to a thrift store so that they're the ones that have to dispose of them."

As the bag enters its third year in the trunk, Samantha is optimistic about the future.

"I’m not giving up," declares Samantha, serving a slice of funfetti cake to the birthday bag. "Maybe this year will be the year."
