White Girl Redefines “Edge” By Flipping Off Followers In Selfie
A recent Instagram study by Harvard University has concluded that “edge” is now defined as “rich white girls giving the finger.”
Photos of privileged white women giving the middle finger have run rampant on Instagram, racking up even more likes than recent videos of Ciara dancing for her husband, Russell Wilson. Dr. Eunice Kim, a Cambridge sociologist, explains that “edgy” used to refer to behavior that challenged the status quo, or a style that revealed a dark side. But now, the term mainly refers to rich white girls wearing “boxer” braids.
21-year-old social media starlet Kimberly Hale (also known as the heiress to the Hale & Hearty fortune) has profited from this trend, posting badass selfies of herself giving the finger, while racking up likes from potential suitors. Last week, Hale posted one of herself lounging in an infinity pool in Tulum while blasting “Fuckin’ Problems,” flipping the camera the big, ole’ bird.
Hale’s followers were stunned by the image. One anonymously commented “Her parents pay her rent, her cell phone bill, and she hires a French maid to wipe her ass. There is nothing edgy about her.” Despite this, Hale continues to post photos of herself giving the camera her expensively manicured finger, rebelling against the very system that has granted her immense privilege.
In unrelated news, it’s being reported that Hale’s family just purchased the Vineyard Vines Corporation.
