Latina Admits To Being Allergic To Both Corn And Flour Tortillas
A Latina from Queens admitted to being what we assume is the first Latina to have an allergy to both corn and flour tortillas. Maria Garcia, a Mexican-American Queens native, shared the news of her allergy with Flexx Magazine saying she discovered it while on a trip to find herself in Mexico City.
With the rise in food allergies this does not seem new. Luckily, it is manageable and is not the type of allergy that might kill Maria, but instead causes a rash in the shape of the Virgin Mary on her right arm.
“I thought it was a sign from God, but then wondered why God would only appear when I’m eating tacos. I guess I just figured God loves tacos,” says Maria.
When asked about how she feels about the allergy, Maria’s mom, also named Maria, declined to comment. Maria (daughter) did mention the family’s plans to not disclose the allergy to her abuela, admitting, “This could kill her. She barely accepted the fact that I’m a vegetarian. This would be, I hate to say it, the nail in the coffin.”
When asked about whole wheat tortillas Maria said, “Nobody likes that shit.”
