J. Cole Fans Denounce Books After Rapper Tweets He Doesn’t Read Like That

Superstar rapper J. Cole expressed that he does not read books and his fans have responded with surprising haste.

“I haven’t done a lot of reading and I don’t feel well equipped as a leader in these times,” tweeted Cole without looking at his phone.

The tweet came after the MC dropped “Snow on Tha Bluff” allegedly in response to fellow musician Noname’s criticism of influential rappers remaining silent amidst racial unrest across the country. But despite Cole expressing a lack of confidence in his own leadership, thousands of his fans have decided to remain loyal.

“Cole say he don’t read, so we not reading either!” exclaimed Rasheed Malik, a 28-year-old, diehard Cole fan who sometimes thinks of bars while in the shower. “We not reading books, we not reading emails, we not even reading the room in an attempt to understand what others might be going through... none of that weak shit!”

FLEXX caught up with Malik at an impromptu book burning ceremony in Queens. As we approached the crowd of thousands, anti-book chants erupted around a massive bonfire.

“Sonia Sanchez, Bell Hooks, WE AINT FUCKIN WIT NO BOOKS!” the crowd yelled around the pyre even though the vast majority of the books were either video game manuals or Junot Díaz short story collections. “3-2-1, 1-2-3, WHY READ BOOKS WHEN THERE'S MOVIES”

After the ceremony, the fire now a mass of glowing embers, a group of mysterious men wearing Dreamville hoodies who call themselves The Cole 5 began inducting members as New Illiterates, or people who abstain from reading in support of J. Cole.

"Why I need books when I got "The Come Up” on CD? You ever heard of Friday Night Lights?" asked one of the hoodied men in a rousing speech to the group. “Cole, Trump, Yeezy... Now just imagine if Kanye actually read a book. You think he would’ve ever been able to make up words like ‘apologin’?"

According to Malik, the next book burning will take place in Los Angeles later this month.

"I’mma burn some book called Fahrenheit 451. I have no clue what it's about but I hear it’s a classic."
