How To Tell If Your Friend Is Excited About Your Mixtape For Real Though
So your mixtape is dropping soon. The one you’ve been working on since high school. Four tracks of killer rhymes, killer heartbreak, and killer ambition. It’s just so fucking hot.
Your friend tells you he’s psyched. But is he, though? For real?
Ask yourself these 3 questions:
Has your friend ever talked to anybody else about your mixtape?
It’s easy to talk about your music when it’s just the two of you. But what about that girl he’s been talking to, does he ever bring it up to her? Nobody talks up their rapper friend to a new girl if they secretly think their rapper friend is whack.
If he tells that girl about your mixtape, that’s risk. That’s putting his shit on the line for you. If it’s a “yes” here, he’s psyched.
What is your friend’s vocab situation?
Okay, so your friend is “psyched” about your mixtape. But is he “worked up” about it? Is he “tossing and turning at night” in anticipation? Here’s the point: does he employ a diverse vocabulary in talking about how “jazzed as fuck” he is to hear your art? If your friend is pumped about your mixtape for real, he should be painting a picture with his words. A picture of him actually sitting his ass down and listening when the SoundCloud link goes up. Maybe even a picture of him rolling down Sepulveda, bumping the shit out of your mixtape.
Does your friend have a history of being a flaky motherfucker?
Sometimes, your friend might seem genuinely “worked the fuck up” over your mixtape, but his flaky ass never delivers on the listens. We got you. Let’s figure out if he’s gonna follow through.
How late was your friend to pick you up for the movies last week? How often does he cancel plans at the last minute? Has he ever cancelled so late that you already picked out shoes? These are the kinds of hard questions you need to ask yourself.
Til then, yo, check out my shit. The link is in my bio.
